Guillaume! Thanks for another interesting read! Amiens is only one structure on a long list of immovable art works I still have on my bucket list…if you‘re looking for a fun read with references to Amiens and many more pieces of art inspired by Abbot Suger and his followers, take a look at this (all conclusions to be taken cum granu salis!!!):
There still is part 2 on Amiens coming, ending with the fact I have a book's worth of things to say about it.
I will do something later about Suger and Saint Denis Basilica. For reading, mixing facts and fiction, since I have read Umberto Eco (Foucault's Pendulum), the bar has been set so high that I worry about being disappointed.
Have you read the story about Notre Dame de Paris?
This will be put on my list when I return to France! Absolutely gorgeous and had no idea, and since I was unable to visit ND's insides this will be a fun comparison when I return!
Yes, this article and the next one are, in part meant to illustrate what I am trying to explain to visitors:
Plenty of wonders are easily reached from around one hour from Paris, with almost no one.
But each time I talk about Amiens and other monuments, people don't know what I'm talking about. When I say Amiens is twice the size of Paris Notre Dame, people think I must be crazy.
The only slight bit of cheating is that I took these photos in winter; there will be more visitors in summer. Yet, I took my calculator, and the total number of visitors there is barely 2.5% of Notre Dame.
I will produce guidebooks for Paris and outside Paris by the summer, so this is a preview.

Fascinating. Now on my list as well.
And there's more to say with Part II...
